Tech Drives S&P 500 Margin Expansion

Almost half of S&P 500 margin expansion is coming from tech, the largest share in decades, perhaps ever. As various studies have shown, tech tends to be the primary beneficiary of tech—in productivty and in margins—and that narrowness persists and is widening.

Senators Urge Data Center Financing Probe

Senate Democrats are "encouraging" Treasury Secretary Bessent to look into "opaque" data center financings as a possible growing source of systemic financial risk. I have written on this umpteen zillion times, of course, for more than a year now, so it us amusing to see the U.S. Senate weigh in.

OpenAI advances rapidly with Codex risks

As expected, Altman's OpenAI moving quickly and breaking things in a race to close the gap with Claude Code. He warns that his Codex will become more dangerous, yet patch bugs. This glib defense reminds me of the burglar wanting to be rewarded for breaking into your house, because he showed your security flaws. https://x.com/sama/status/2014733975755817267
